Wooden piles are piles in the earth that transfer the weight of the overlying structure to deeper sand layers that are firm enough to bear the overhead construction. Piles are also called adhesion piles because, during driving, they also derive load-bearing capacity from adhesion, the “sticking” to the sand layers.
These are primarily used in the foundations of light construction. For example, wooden foundation piles are used in housing construction, in sewer works, and in road construction projects. In the agricultural sector, wooden greenhouse piles are used for greenhouse construction. .
Wood type:
The wooden pile is mainly supplied in European softwood. Spruce is often chosen for this type of wood, due to the straightness of these wooden piles.
During piling work, wooden piles must be placed well below the groundwater level so that they are not exposed to rot. Concrete extensions (also called concrete toppings) are therefore often driven onto the wooden piles, which push the wooden pile head well below the groundwater level.
Possibilities
The wooden foundation piles are available in lengths ranging from 2 metres up to 20 metres. The standard point diameters of the piles vary from 10 cm to 20 cm. We supply foundation piles in all common diameters, and upon request, even up to a head diameter of 50 cm.
Points of attention:
To prevent wood rot, the posts must be placed entirely below the water level.
Allow for variations in the water level.
